On November 23, 2025, following STARD’s first Beach Clean Up as part of its Dune Restoration Initiative, Atlantic Beach, South Carolina’s own Chef Ollie delighted the taste buds of STARD board members, event sponsors, and clean-up participants with a delicious and succulent Gullah luncheon.
In keeping with STARD’s mission to raise awareness of Gullah Geechee culture within the historic coastal community of Atlantic Beach, Chef Ollie created a brand-new dish just for the occasion: “Ollie’s Build Your Own Gullah Bowl.” The dish featured a variety of locally sourced, seasonal grains, proteins, vegetables, and Lowcountry-inspired flavorings, with core staples reflecting the community’s West African heritage.
